BrowZine

The Library has recently purchased BrowZine, an app which enables users to browse and read academic journal articles on tablet devices.

BrowZine brings together articles from our subscription and open access journals into a single ‘newsstand’ style app.   Users can save their favourite journals, view the tables of contents, and read articles as new issues are released.

BrowZine is designed for current awareness and browsing.  It complements the Library catalogue StarPlus, which can be used for more focused research or searching.

University of Sheffield members can download the BrowZine app, free of charge, from the iPad, Android and Amazon App Stores, or from the link below.  After downloading, users will need to select University of Sheffield from the list and enter their University of Sheffield username and password when prompted.

Please note: the minimum OS required are iPad version 5.1.1 and Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). BrowZine is currently available for tablets only. It is not compatible with smartphones at present although this development is expected in the future.

Spotlight on.... the Trip Database

Trip is a free search engine used to find clinical evidence and  research in the fields of medicine, dentistry and health.

Used by health professionals and members of the public alike the interface is easy to use and incorporates some useful tools, such as a PICO search option where you can easily apply your PICO analysis to generate your search results, and the still developing 'Trip Rapid Review' search option which allows you to analyse multiple research articles at once.

From the simple and advanced search options it's also easy to find a whole range of different types of material. Using the tabs along the top of your search results you can limit your search to resources such as clinical evidence, images, videos, educational tools or patient information sites. The options on the right-hand side of your search results also allows you to further limit the clinical evidence results to resource types such as systematic reviews, case reports or guidelines etc.

With results including evidence from pubmed, the cochrane database and NICE the quality of the search results seems to be high but remember to always use your own judgement and appraise the evidence for yourself.

Making your research open access has never been easier now that the link between myPublications and White Rose Research Online is live. White Rose Research Online is Sheffield's open access institutional repository, and all staff are welcome to deposit an author version of their peer-reviewed articles, plus any other research outputs, including conference proceedings, posters, monographs and more.

Please watch our short video to see how simple it is to deposit your research in WRRO.

As ever, the Library's open access team are happy to provide more tailored information to departments, research centres, and research groups across the University, regardless of funding sources or levels.
