Easter & Bank Holiday opening

Firstly, we'd like to say thank you to all of you who contributed to the My Books scheme. Keep a look out for the items appearing on StarPlus - the library catalogue soon.

Due to the Easter holidays and Bank Holidays coming up soon we have a few exceptions to the normal opening hours, these changes have been detailed below:

The Health Sciences Library - Royal Hallamshire Hospital will be open the following for Easter and Bank Holidays:

Thursday 24 March  - 09:00-17:00 (Staffed)
Friday 25 March - Closed
Saturday 26 March - 14:00-18:00 (Self-service only)
Sunday 27 March - Closed
Monday 28 March - Closed
Monday 2 May - 09:00-21:00 (Staffed 09:00-17:00)
Monday 30 May - 09:00-21:00 (Staffed 09:00-1700
Monday 29 August - Closed

From 16 April - 17 July the The Health Sciences Library - Royal Hallamshire Hospital will move to exam opening hours:
Monday-Friday  - 09:00-21:00 (Staffed 09:00-19:00 Mon-Thu, 10:00-19:00 Fri)
Saturday - Sunday - 10:00-18:00 (Self-service only)

The Information Commons and The Diamond will be open 24/7 during Easter and Bank Holidays.  Please see Information Commons opening hours  and The Diamond opening hours  for details of staffed hours and regular opening.

Borrowing and opening hours over the Easter vacation

Borrowing and requesting items over the Easter vacation
Over the Easter vacation your books will continue to be renewed by us.  From Monday 31 March, if a book is requested by someone else we will send you an email to let you know and to ask that you return the book by 28th April.  Requested books will not be renewed beyond this date.

You can still request books over the Easter vacation, however the person who has the book out on loan over the vacation will not have to return it until Monday 28 April.


Opening hours over the Easter vacation
The University Library will have revised opening hours over the Easter Vacation.

Health Sciences Library - Royal Hallamshire Hospital will be open as follows:
Thursday 17 April: 09:00-17:00 (Staffed 09:00 - 17:00)
Friday 18 April: Closed
Saturday 19 April: 14:00-18:00 (Self-service only)
Sunday 20 April: Closed
Monday 21 April: Closed

Health Sciences Library - Northern General Hospital will close at 17:00 on Thursday 17 April and reopen on Tuesday 22 April at 09:00.

The Information Commons will be open 24/7 with staffed hours as follows:
Thursday 17 April: Staffed 09:00-17:00
Friday 18 April: Staffed 09:00-17:00
Saturday 19 April: Staffed 12:00-18:00
Sunday 20 April: Self-service only
Monday 21 April: Staffed 09:00-17:00
Please note some services may not be available during the Easter vacation.

Christmas Vacation Loans & Christmas opening

Christmas vacation loans 

Christmas vacation loans are now available for all University staff and students.  Items will be issued or automatically renewed as follows:

From Monday 9 December 2013

• Non-requested items - Items that do not have a reservation at point of issue or renewal will be due for return on Monday 20 January 2014

From Monday 16 December 2013

• Requested items - Items that have reservations on them at point of issue will now be due for return on Monday 20 January 2014

These loan periods do not apply to External borrowers.

On Monday 20 January 2014, if the item does not have a request, we will continue to automatically renew it beyond 20 January.  If your item is requested during the vacation then it will be due for return on 20 January 2014.

Before you go home, check your library account in StarPlus to make sure that your items have been renewed over the vacation (you can also renew the items yourself) and to return any items that need to be brought back to the library before you leave.  

Please remember to cancel any reservations that you no longer need.

The Health Sciences Library - Royal Hallamshire Hospital will be open over the Christmas Vacation as follows:

Tuesday 24 December 2013: 9am-5pm (Staffed 9am-5pm)

Wednesday 25 December 2013 - Sunday 29 December 2013: CLOSED

Monday 30 December 2013 - Tuesday 31 December 2013: 9am-5pm (Self-service only)

Wednesday 1 January 2014: CLOSED

Normal opening hours resume on Thursday 2 January 2014.  Details available here

Northern General Hospital

The Health Sciences Library - Northern General Hospital will be open over the Christmas Vacation as follows:

Tuesday 24 December 2013: 9am-5pm (Staffed 11am-3pm)

Wednesday 25 December 2013 - Wednesday 1 January 2014: CLOSED

Normal opening hours resume on Thursday 2 January 2014.  Details available here

Information Commons

The IC will remain open over the Christmas Vacation on a self service basis, staffed hours as follow:

Tuesday 24 December 2014: Open 24 hours (staffed 9am-5pm)

Wednesday 25 December - Wednesday 1 January 2014: Open 24 hours (Self-service only)

Exam Survival

Looking for a place to revise? Remember many of the libraries have longer opening hours throughout the exam period. Our very own Health Sciences Library will be open for longer at weekends, 10:00-18:00, and also Western Bank Library will be open until midnight Mon-Thurs and Sun. 

And of course there's always the IC, open 24/7. Check out all the Library opening hours here.

There's also plenty of silent study areas throughout all the Library sites. The Health Sciences Library has a separate silent study room at the far end of the Library. Ask for directions at the counter.
