Do you need legal information for your course?
Of course you do if you’re a student in the Law School, but other subject disciplines use legal information as well. Areas of law such as employment, health, media, planning and safety are often of interest to students and staff in a variety of faculties and departments, including Medicine, Dentistry and Health.
There are two legal databases, Lexis and Westlaw that are widely used by law students and by law firms. Both employ friendly, helpful student associates on campus, and you can contact them for help in using the databases. The associate for Lexis is Emmi Wilson eewilson1@shef.ac.uk and the associate for Westlaw is Trish Hughes pahughes1@shef.ac.uk
Check out the subject guide for law on the library web if you’d like to find out more about legal databases and websites. If you need more information about resources for legal research, contact the Library subject specialist for law, Maria Mawson m.b.mawson@shef.ac.uk .

What’s happening in the NHS?
An invitation to ALL Students in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health
When: Monday 16 May 2011, 5.30 – 7.30pm,
Where: Mappin Hall, Sir Frederick Mappin Building
At a recent Focus Group involving students from the Faculty, student representatives asked if we could organise a discussion about the current changes in the NHS, and moreover, take some time to talk about what this will mean for us.
The event will feature a panel made up of local health professionals who will each give their perspective on the plans for change in the NHS. Students will also have the opportunity to ask the panel questions. The event will finish with a buffet meal and time for attendees to chat with other students from across the Faculty and discover more about how they will be working together, in NHS settings.
The event is being hosted by Margaret Freeman, the Faculty Director of Learning and Teaching, as part of a range of Interprofessional Education activities.
The Panel speakers include:
Professor Tony Weetman – Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor
Professor Liddy Goyder – ScHARR (Public Health expert), NHS Specialist training provider
Ms Kirsten Major – Director of Service Development, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals
Dr Andrew Lee – Practising GP, Clinical Lecturer in ScHARR
